Taiwan Stock exchange to extend deadline for the 3.5% floor limit to 24 October

2008/10/19

During 10 October 08 to 17 October 08 the TAIEX has tumbled by 3.32%. Nevertheless in between the same period the other Asian economies has plummeted much higher such as Hang Seng Index by 8.87%, Nikkei225 by 5.06%, Kospi by 8.82%, Straits Times Index by 10.66 and Shanghai Stock Index by 6.94%. This implies that the strategy employed by the Financial Supervisory Commission has taken effect to recuperate confidence in the stock market. Due to the unrelenting high volatility in the international equity market, the Financial Supervisory Commission has (19 October 2008) extended the 3.5% daily limit that shares prices can fall until 24 October 08. However, further extension after the 24 October 08 is left to be decided by the Financial Supervisory Commission.

Weekly Briefing - TAIEX Analysis

2008/12/15

The global equity markets plummeted on Friday as the bail-out plan for the US automakers collapses in the US Senate. Fortunately the Bush administration has signaled that they will support the car industry with the $700bn bail-out fund created for the financial industry. Despite the continued grim prospect of the global economy, majority of the pessimistic news has been factored into the equity markets. As a result in the short term selling pressure should be diminished greatly and the global equity markets will continue to rebound from its recent lows.
